Houston County High School is a grades 7-12 school located approximately 18 miles east of Dothan, AL. The school is located along State Highway 52 in the city of Columbia, AL. HCHS serves approximately 333 students living in the northeast section of Houston County. The staff consists of 1 principal, 1 assistant principal, 1 7th-12th guidance counselor, 1 instructional coach, 1 media specialist, 22 faculty members, 3 aides, 1 Title I Aide, 1 school nurse, and 14 support staff members.
The school core academic classes, advanced level courses, VoTech courses in Agricultural Education and [in] Business Technology; as well as, courses designed for special needs students. 3 fully equipped computer labs are available to students for research, remediation, college applications, and other forms of instructional support. Each classroom is equipped with computer workstations, smart boards, iPad Labs (2 sets of 20 for checkout), Mimios, Clickers, a mobile laptop lab (available for checkout to classrooms), and other sources of 21st Century Technology for faculty and students for a facilitated learning environment and/or subject area remediation, Internet projects and webquests, extra credit work, or computer assisted instruction as assigned by the teacher.
HCHS offers a well rounded and comprehensive athletic program for Sr. High and Jr. High boys and girls. Students enjoy competing in football, volleyball, boy's basketball, girl's basketball, fast pitch softball, baseball, cheerleading, marching band and concert band, a band flag corps, and a BEST Robotics team.
HCHS also offers a 9th-12th Scholars Bowl Teams - 9th & 10th and a 11th & 12th grade team. National Beta Club, Math and Science Clubs, Journalism, FBLA, FFA, Athletic Letterman Club, FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes), First Priority, and Key Club (Charter is pending for 2016-2017).
HCHS has won multiple awards in the Wallace JC and Enterprise State JC Mathematics competitions, local and state band and flag corps competitions, and individual athletes have been named to WAC (Wiregrass Athletic Conference) All Conference Teams in football, volleyball, boys and girls basketball, baseball , and softball.
HCHS has awarded several Senior Classes with scholarship monies [approximately] totaling between $100,000 and $250,000. HCHS Alumni have established local scholarship opportunities, as well. HCHS Alumni and other BCEP (Business Community and Edication Partnership) have donated countless manpower hours, materials and monetary funds.
The administration, faculty, staff and entire PLC (Public Learning Community) work hand-in-hand to provide our students with a quality education!
